So, here I am, starting my own blog for the first time in my life. Why? I’ll get to that later. First, thank you for taking the time to read along! I hope that, through this process, you are able to learn a little more from me, and I’m able to learn a little more about myself.

Why am I starting a blog?

Honestly, I’ve been thinking about it for awhile, and decided to stop waiting and start doing. Over the past year, I’ve been reading more long-form online content and listening to more podcasts. This has inspired me to jump into the online media world myself.

What will my blog be about?

This blog will be about ways the average individual can get their foot in the door in the smart home movement. The idea of having smart “things” throughout your house can seem expensive, complicated, and a little scary! I want to turn the narrative around and present the idea of a smart home in a way that seems both easy to set up, and affordable to do.

Why smart home technology?

Over the past year, besides being a new Dad, it has become my biggest hobby. Most of the research that I’ve come across has involved the expensive, “state-of-the-art”, technology. I’m hoping to fill a void for people like me who has the desire to automate their home, but don’t have the spending power for a most popular items on the market.

Where do we go from here?

Starting soon, I’ll be posting articles weekly on the subject of the “a simple smart home.” I’m going to be starting going over what I’ve already implemented in my own home, and plan on branching out from there and learning along with my reading audience. Hopefully, this gives me the excuse to add a few more smart home features to my house as well (in the name of research, of course!).

Once again, thank you for coming along on this ride with me. If you are interested in my thoughts on society at large, please follow me on Twitter at @schuylertraudt.

I am a husband, father, and tech enthusiast living in Saratoga County, New York. I have spent the past 10 years (and counting!) honing my technical skills traveling the United States as a technical specialist for a software company out of Albany, NY. In addition to that, I've spent the past two and a half years implementing affordable smart home solutions in my home.
