This week, Amazon released announced and released Alexa Guard to it’s line of smart speakers. Alexa Guard is a feature that is offered to help protect your home when you are away. It is triggered by saying “Alexa, I’m leaving.” Here are the features that Alexa Guard offers.
Smart Alerts
With Smart Alerts, Alexa will be listening to sounds that raise alarm. Glass breaking, smoke alarms and CO detector alarms will all trigger alerts from your Alexa at home to your mobile phone. From the phone, you’ll be able to listen to the sound that triggered the alert, and be able to listen in and investigate whats going on inside your home.
Away Lighting
With Away Lighting, you can program what lights you want on, and what lights you want off when you are away from home. If you want to conserve energy, Alexa will turn all of your lights off for you. If you want to program specific lights to stay on so it looks like someone is still there, Alexa can do that as well.
Security System Integration
This can be integrated with your ADT or Ring (owned by Amazon) security system. I’d expect that over the coming weeks, more security systems will be added as well. Get alerts on your mobile device through the Alexa Guard system whenever your integrated security system is triggered.
I think this is a fantastic new feature that Amazon is offering. Smart home tech should be seen as functional and necessary, not just a luxury. Alexa Guard truly adds functionality in this way.
