Six Months In: A Half Year In Review

Bear with me on this one. I’d like to put together brief review of the first six months of this blog, and some goals for the rest of the year.

In the past year, I’ve written way more than I have in the past decade. I’ve covered the best and worst of trade shows and product introductions. Writing overviews of smart home product groups by category and by manufacturer has become a staple of this site. Through all of this, I’ve most enjoyed writing about smart home news stories and topical commentary.

I’ve learn a lot. First of all, I’ve learned about the power (and the struggle) of WordPress. I learned a little bit about SEO and social media strategy as well. I’ve also learned a good amount about how hard it is to find good, free stock photos.

I have a few goals moving forward.

1. Monetization. You may start seeing ads on this site. I promise they won’t be TOO obtrusive. At the end of the day, I’d like to see some reward to my hard work.

2. More editorial content. Product reviews and overviews are important and a great base of writing, but editorial content very intriguing. From here on out, expect more of it.

3. A larger social media presence. Social media is a great way to drive traffic to a site, and the best way to interact with readers. I hope to take advantage of that. If you aren’t already, please follow me on Twitter, as well that the other social networks.

As I continue writing, I’ll continue to review where we’ve been and where we are going. What would you like to see more of? Reach out to me on the social networks to let me know!

I am a husband, father, and tech enthusiast living in Saratoga County, New York. I have spent the past 10 years (and counting!) honing my technical skills traveling the United States as a technical specialist for a software company out of Albany, NY. In addition to that, I've spent the past two and a half years implementing affordable smart home solutions in my home.
